I have 5 years of experience as a trained Birth Doula. My goal as your Doula is to help you feel prepared to have the birth you envision on having. Your birth, your choices, your decisions. I believe in education and informed resolve. It is important to me that my clients feel like they are fully supported by their birth team. I dislike that as a society we have accepted not taking responsibility for our births. I want to be apart of the change that ignites women to take charge of their births, stop the revolving door of birth horror stories and mistreatment during such a vulnerable time. I assist women to become knowledgeable and confident birthers, who will tell their children stories of the care and love they received in labor. During pregnancy, we will meet 2-3 times in order to build a relationship, and help you plan for labor and birth. We will discuss what you want, and how to prepare for that through learning about labor and delivery, as well as ways to support your birth plans during your pregnancy. Education is one of the most important ways to increase confidence for labor and delivery. When we have an idea on what to expect and what is helpful to cope through these stages of labor, we will feel more confident. Would one feel confident if they showed up to an academic exam having not studied? Usually not, unless they already were educated. From the Islamic Sunnah, The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) asked a bedouin man, “Why don't you tie down your camel?”. The Bedouin answered, “I put my trust in Allah (God).” The Prophet (PBUH) then replied, “Tie your camel first, and then put your trust in Allah.” It seems simple. Tie the camel-> do your due diligence, AND trust in God. I am passionate about birth and women being in control of their birth narrative, so I promise to do my best on my end to help you feel supported throughout this journey. I believe that we shouldn't leave our births up to "the flow", because if we do that, it will most likely not be OUR flow, but the birthing facility's, who commonly seek to control birth according to protocols and a one size fits all approach. Your needs are not one size and you should not be treated like another number on the roster for the day. Instead, we should prepare, and as a birth team, work as a unit doing what you want to do and what is best for each step, and we leave the rest to Allah.
First, upon contact for services, we will meet either in person or virtually in order to see if we are a good fit for each other. After hiring, we will meet 2-3 times in person (virtual option available only for first prenatal meeting), in which we will discuss your birth desires, and help you plan for that. This includes birth preferences, how to best achieve those, how to make sure your entire birth team is supportive, labor and birth education, and postpartum planning.
I was formally trained by Enlightened Mama in June 2018. Since then, on top of reading books on the subjects, I have taken many trainings in order to gain more knowledge and best serve my clients. Some of these include: Spinning Babies trained by Gail Tully herself, Gilligan's Guide, trained by Ann Gilligan, and currently enrolled in the Body Ready Method by Lindsay McCoy.
I offer Labor and Birth Doula services, womb/vaginal steaming for labor preparation and postpartum healing, Childbirth Preparation classes, and Traditional Postpartum healing services in the Moroccan Tradition. Although I serve families from different backgrounds, I am chosen above others for my expertise and culturally congruent care, centering Muslim and Black families.
